Musical Collection of the Musicological Institute of Fribourg has been catalogued and made public

Monday, September 8, 2025

Between June 2022 and July 2025, the RISM Digital Center completed the cataloguing and inventorying the historical music collection from the Departement of Musicology in Fribourg. Donated to the BCU several years ago, this valuable collection offers unique insights into Switzerland’s oldest academic institute for musicology – founded in 1893 under Peter Wagner.

The holdings were systematically reorganised and fully catalogued in both detailed inventory and the database Muscat. All sources registered in Muscat are accessible via RISM-Online and the complete inventory is available as a PDF on Fri-Memoria. The project not only preserves important musical heritage but also makes significant cultural assets from Fribourg available to a wider public.
