Frey-Grynäum: Publication of a pilot project on late medieval fragments
Wednesday, November 29, 2017
Together with the Institute for Musicology of the University of Basel, the Frey-Gryn Institute and Basel University Library, RISM Switzerland launched a pilot projet to catalogue musical fragments from the late Middle Ages. The Frey-Gryn library in Basel dates from 1747. Some of the parchment of its bindings was taken from Basel convents, abolished after the Reformation. Among them there are ca. 140 parchments with musical notation, mostly liturgical chant.
The fragments date from the 11th to the 16th centuries. The bindings will be digitised at Basel University Library. The images will be linked to the catalogue data, providing the users not only with metadata, but also with a reproduction of the source itself.
See the project page for more information about the project.
